IPL Treatments
Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) emits a polychromatic, incoherent, multi-directional light that targets pigment, converting it into heat and destroying the hair, its bulb and its germinative cells. Photoepilation may produce hair reduction of approximately 60%-90%. Results depend on client's age, body area, hair color, skin color and texture. Photoepilation is particularly effective on dark pigmented hair, in anagen phase, and on light skin.
The difference compared to Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation (LASER), is that IPL offers more saturation of damage to the hair follicle due to its large electroluminescent spectrum (400nm to 1200nm) and the multi-directional wave travel. This means IPL releases flashes of intensified natural light in all different directs, color, and wavelengths, compared to LASER that uses a single beam of light, affecting only portions of the hair follicle.
The US Food & Drug Administration acknowledges that Photoepilation (LASER or IPL) allows for permanent hair reduction. To achieve permanent results, sessions must be completed with Electroepilation (Electrolysis) and on non-pigmented hair (light, grey, white or red hair) or on dark skin.
Different world institutions have established a classification of equipment according to various criteria:
- Class 1 and 2: slight burn risk (IPL)
- Class 3, 4, and 5: burn risk from slight to severe (LASER)
